Auto DMs Not Sending on Just One Instagram Post? What to Check

Auto DMs go out fine on your other posts, but one post just won’t send? It may not be your automation settings. Instagram may have classified that post as restricted content. Here is how to check in 30 seconds while logged out, and what you can do right away if it is.

DocuRise Guide cover: Auto DMs Not Sending on Just One Post?

🗣️ “My other posts work fine, but this one post won’t send DMs”

Hi, this is DocuRise.

Recently, we have seen some Instagram posts get classified as “restricted content” by Meta, which stops comment auto DMs from being sent on those posts.

After looking into it, we found that this is not caused by your DocuRise automation settings or a system error. It happens because Meta has classified specific posts as “restricted content.”

Below, we explain how to check in under a minute whether your post is affected, and what to do about it.

You are likely affected if

  • Auto DMs are sent normally on other posts from the same account
  • On one specific post, DMs are not sent even when people comment
  • DocuRise does not record any comments for that post at all
  • A post that used to work suddenly stopped sending at some point

🔍 How to check whether a post is restricted

Copy the link to the post that is having the problem, then:

  • Open the post while logged out of Instagram
  • Open the post in an incognito (private) browser window

✅ If the post shows up normally

Then it is unlikely to be the content restriction issue we describe here.

The cause may be your automation settings or something else, so please contact DocuRise with the link to the affected post. We will look into it for you.

⚠️ If the post does not show up or access is restricted

If the post shows up normally while you are logged in, but does not appear or shows a restriction when you are logged out or in an incognito window, Meta is most likely restricting access to that content.

In that case, keep reading below.

▲ If you see this message when you open the post in an incognito window without logging in, Meta has classified it as age-restricted content.

🤔 Why do auto DMs stop when content is restricted?

Comment auto DMs only work when DocuRise receives post and comment data from Meta.

When a post is classified as restricted content, Meta does not send this data. DocuRise cannot see that a comment was posted, so the auto DM is not sent.

Instagram limits the reach and outside access of content that may be sensitive or that does not meet its recommendation guidelines. This often happens with posts that mention diet, medical, financial, or adult topics, and the system can classify posts automatically even when there is no clear violation.

Because Meta applies this restriction, unfortunately DocuRise cannot remove the restriction or restore auto DMs for that post.

You can also read Meta’s related guides:

✍🏻 If your post is restricted, here is what to do

Content restrictions are applied by Meta’s policies and systems, so DocuRise cannot lift the restriction or restore auto DMs for that post. But there are steps you can take right now.

For posts that are already live

  • Send DMs manually to the people who commented. It takes extra effort, but not losing the people who already responded comes first.
  • Point people to your sign-up page in the caption or your profile link. They do not have to go through the comments, so this keeps lost traffic to a minimum. If you use the DocuRise Profile Link, you only need to add one link.
  • If the post performed well, repost the same content as a new post and connect the automation to it. Rewording it slightly sometimes avoids the restriction.

For posts you plan to publish

  • Open each post in an incognito window right after you upload it. It takes 10 seconds. It is safer to connect the automation only after you confirm the post is visible.
  • Test important campaigns with a pilot post first. Before you publish the real post, publish a test post, comment on it yourself, and check that the auto DM actually arrives. It is much better than finding out on launch day.

DocuRise is working on this too

Following these cases, we are looking into ways to detect when auto DMs stop working on a specific post and let you know first. We will share more as soon as it is ready.

Until then, please use the steps above to check. If anything is unclear, contact us with the post link and we will look into it together.

Thank you.
